Missions - WMU
Loading image...Our WMU has four age level organizations whose purpose is to teach the need for missions in our world, to pray for our missionaries, to give to missions through our offerings, and to do hands-on missions within our community. The WMU mission program includes:

Women on Mission
For adult members of the church. We presently have three day groups (meeting the first Tuesday of each month); and one evening group (meeting the first Thursday evening of each month).

AcTeens
Designed for teenage girls in grades 7-12. Through AcTeens, girls will not only gain knowledge about missions, but develop a passion to give and be involved in them. Through this process they will recognize their own mission abilities and skills which will enable them to participate in mission projects now and in the future.

Girls In Action (GA's)
Designed for girls in Grades 1 - 6.

Mission Friends
For boys and girls ages 4 and 5 years.

GAs and Mission Friends
Loading image...GA's and Mission Friends meet during the school year at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesdays. For information concerning any of these organizations, please contact the church office, and they will be happy to put you in touch with the person directing the program in which you may have interest.

These missions organizations have led the church in ministering to the homeless and poor of our city. They have provided canned goods and staples for the Shelby Baptist Children’s Home; collected Christmas toys for Brinkley Heights ministries; collected shoes for the homeless ministry; purchased personal items for women’s prison ministry and Christmas gifts for their children. They have also provided Easter baskets for the Baptist Children’s Home.

Our children and teens annually hold bake sales and deliver Christmas cards to raise funds for foreign missions. In addition they visit nursing homes and hospitals.

Our women’s groups volunteer at local food pantries and clothes closets. They prepare and serve luncheons to the Baptist Student Union at the University of Memphis. They sponsor underprivileged children at summer camps and prepare hundreds of sack lunches for visiting mission teams every summer. They sponsor an on-going churchwide project to collect canned goods for the emergency food pantry.

Royal Ambassadors (RA's)

The Royal Ambassadors (RA's) group, designed for boys in grades 1-6, is involved in many of the hands-on activities described above. Highlights of the year for the boys are the Pinewood Derby, an evening of racing model cars built by the boys themselves; and the Tri-State Camporee during the first week of October, where the boys participate in camping and outside events with boys from two other states.
